DirectorsLabChicago announces new Artistic Director
DirectorsLabChicago is both saddened and excited today as we announce a change in leadership and a move into our next chapter. Our Artistic Director and co-founder, Elizabeth Margolius, has announced her decision to no longer lead the Chicago-based artist service organization she founded twelve years ago. She and the board have chosen DLC staffer and long-time local theater director Wm. Bullion as her replacement.
We wish Elizabeth all the best in her future endeavors, and are grateful for all she has done to build DirectorsLabChicago into the strong and respected group it is today. Over 200 directors from Chicago, around the country, and around the world have attended our annual Lab under her leadership. She will remain a part of the our steering committee and Board of Directors for at least a year, lending her support and expertise as we restructure for the future.
A noted Chicago director of theater and opera, Elizabeth founded DLC in 2005 with fellow director Karin Shook after the two met while attending the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab in New York.
“It has been an incredible 12 years,” she says, “but I must now focus my efforts on other creative endeavors in both Chicago and New York, and let the new leadership grow the Lab from here.”
Bullion and the entire DLC committee are hard at work to ensure a smooth transition into this next chapter. Already in the works are DLC’s annual week-long Lab and several workshops, seminars and master classes throughout the year.
“The mission of DirectorsLabChicago is near and dear to my heart,” says Bullion. “I’m looking forward to providing quality experiences and resources for all levels of the Chicago directing community, and to continuing the work of building DLC into a high-profile, sustainable organization.”
DirectorsLabChicago offers environments in which emerging and established stage directors from Chicago and around the world are able to consider, challenge, and engage in both the traditional and contemporary aspects of their craft while creating opportunities for educating the public in the art of stage direction.
